How to tell if a steering stabilizer is bad

For sure, I drove a lot of rattle traps when I was younger and never thought much about the slop until I got behind the wheel of a newer vehicle. I have a 1978 F-100 4x4 that I don't drive a lot. If I drive it everyday the steering feels ok but if I don't use it for a month .... oh boy!

What did you do to your Jeep today?

My guess would be just one day old.

What did you do to your Jeep today?

Last time I saw one that little/young I was coming up my mountain driveway. I could have opened my jeep door and scooped it up. Never saw the mama but knew it had to be close by.

    the blue angels

I think it's been 50 yrs since I've seen the blue angels but remember how awesome it was to watch them. You could tune in your radio to get a narrative of what they were doing ...... providing they weren't directly overhead.

What did you do to your Jeep today?

Same thing on my JK, above 2k rpm the mpg drops drastically. I also get better mpg if I don't use cruise control - it's too quick to downshift and too slow to upshift.

    Broke brake line...how to fix?

Your local auto parts stores sells brake lines in various lengths and diameters. Remove the old line and take it with you. They'll match up the diameter and fittings. You'll have to make all the bends yourself. It's best to use a brake line bending tool but I have used a rattle can - you don't...

    Left rear brake went kapow

Sounds like a wheel cylinder or brake line. It should become evident once you pull the wheel and drum. If you reuse the shoes you'll want to clean them with brake cleaner to remove the oil.

    Got some new jack stands.

I also lack concrete/pavement and often set a scrap piece of plywood under the stand to keep it from sinking.

    Got some new jack stands.

I've always wanted a pair of taller jack stands but they are pricey and the want is greater than the need. I have a 4 of the harbor freight 5 ton stands and 2 of their 3 ton. They are all the ratcheting type manufactured long before their recent stand failures. I also have couple of the cheap 2...

Third tail light conversion of the third kind

As far as I know they only work with the brake. Besides rewiring you'd have install a different bulb/holder to accept a 2 filament bulb.

    Merry christmas to all

As much as I don't want to admit it, my heat pump is nearing the end of it's life - it's in the neighborhood of 15 yrs old. Used to it never struggled until the temps got into the teens but now it struggles under 35°. Yrs ago I disconnected the heat strips as it's cheaper that way especially...

    Merry christmas to all

Our heat pump went back to working after it warmed up some. Repair man never showed up [or called] Back when wood was our main source of heat I cleaned the flue once a month during the winter. I intend to clean it again as soon as I get to feeling better. Can't believe the after effects of covid...

No crank, no power, no start after alt reg burned

When I make a mistake like that it makes me mad at me! But it does serve as a good reminder and you are less likely to make that mistake again. We all learn [or should] from our mistakes.

    Merry christmas to all

I prefer wood heat over a heat pump [but my wife doesn't] If you get chilled to the bone a heat pump won't warm you up but stand next to a wood stove for a few minutes and you'll get thawed out. I've been relying more on the heat pump the last few yrs and don't have the supply of firewood I...

What did you do to your Jeep today?

I used to work for an outfit that converted two 2.5 ton trucks to propane. That was back in the 80s, boss claimed there was a significant fuel savings but you had to be mindful of how much was in the tank. You can get a carb that will take both propane and gasoline but it cost more and he was...

    Merry christmas to all

Hope y'all had a great Christmas! We had to more/less cancel it this yr. I've got covid so none of the kids could come over plus with days of single digit temps our water froze and our heat pump quit pumping warm air. Thank God for our woodstove. One of the neater presents I got was a T-shirt...

    '06 Commander won't shift past 3rd

Have you verified the overdrive button wasn't pushed? I accidentally pushed it once on my JK and it took me a bit to figure out why it wouldn't shift into 4th.

Engine is going bad, what options for replacement?

My 2010 JK with 91k miles runs decent but it's been using oil since 60k. Not had to do any engine work yet. My 1990 XJ 4.0 never did use any oil [other than leak a little] although it did have a lot of electronic issues. It had close to 220k when I traded. I like my jeep but I sure wish they...
