Another noise from under my TJ

I've ordered new rubber mounts, that should be hear in a couple of days, along with my new shroud. I'll probably try to lower the shroud half an inch or so. I've been researching my rear driveshaft, and from what I read a bit of rotational slop between the two halves is to be expected. I'll...

    Lawn woes

Here's my front lawn. I put down artificial grass a couple of years ago and never looked back. Saves me about 3 minutes of mowing a week. I do have to hit it with a leaf blower every now and then. Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk

Another noise from under my TJ

I pulled the rear driveshaft to replace the ujoints, but I'm seeing some play in it. This is a Cherokee front driveshaft that I had cut down by a driveshaft shop several years ago. Does this look like too much play? If I fully extend the shaft, there doesn't appear to be any play...

Another noise from under my TJ

The fan clutch was replaced last year, but I'll check it out. I've also ordered some new motor mount bushings. Haven't really driven it, once I realized I'd have to take the fan off to get the shroud out, then redo it again later when the parts came in, I decided to wait. I'm going to replace...

Another noise from under my TJ

I have brown dog extended engine mounts, so I went to roll around under my Jeep and take a look at them when I saw this. I'm not sure if it's the cause or the symptom but it certainly isn't right. I've ordered a new (used) OEM shroud off eBay, but I may try running without one until...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

The monkeys are satisfied (for now) - thanks for your help, that could have ended poorly. I haven't really driven it for the last month, I've been rebuilding my front driveshaft and being a general hermit, so I can't speak to the better running though. Funny you ask abound noises though, I...

Another noise from under my TJ

You guys did such a good job diagnosing the "laughing monkeys" that I'm back with another. Driving down the road in my 2005 Jeep TJ 4.0L automatic. When going around 50 mph, and with a wall or car next to me, I'll hear what to me sounds like a paper flapping in the breeze. It only happens...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

I replaced the opda successfully. It wasn't too hard and really only took me an hour. This is the original in place. Getting these bolts off were likely the hardest part. The tiny torx stripped out immediately, but a pair of vice grips made short work of it. I rotated the engine until...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

OK, that really does sound like monkeys - I can't unhear it now. Thanks for that video - his does sound like mine, and the fact that it was much louder on the passenger side, further back from the pulleys makes me think you're right. I bought this off Amazon - let me know if you have any...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

It's an auto. The weird thing is that the noise only happened that one trip. After I turned the jeep off and restarted later it was gone. I've made a few trips and haven't heard the noise again. I took the pressure washer to the engine bay today, as it was still pretty dirty from my last trip...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

Hopped in my 2005 4.0L TJ and drove halfway down the street before I noticed a weird noise. It was engine speed related, and would occur in neutral as well. I went back home and took the below video. I turned the Jeep off and back on again and the noise is gone. I've made two trips without the...

Jeep TJ oil drain plug gasket - do we need to change this?

I remember hearing somewhere that I should change the drain plug gasket on my TJ every time I change the oil. I'm embarrassed to say that I've never done this. I went on rockauto to grab a couple, but it looks like there are quite a few options, manufacturers, as well as materials. What's...

    Back out on the trail

I've washed it twice, and it's just "dirty" now. both times I'd put the pressure washer into each hole in the frame and blast for what felt like forever. I've got the water running out clean now though.

    Back out on the trail

Two weeks ago me and the boys went on our yearly offroad trip. This time we went back to Burning Rock offroad park and had a great time. It was off season, so we had the park pretty much to ourselves which was cool - it was also really wet. One thing that I noticed is that my TJ had a much...

That looks like a blast. I'd have been nervous when the front end came up while climbing the hill (at 1:09)!

    Breaking Starter Solenoids

Just throwing things out there, but could this be a problem with your flywheel - bent or missing teeth? Do the bad ones work if you try them out on the bench? Maybe spin but not engage?

    Breaking Starter Solenoids

My old CJ7 seemed to need a new starter every year. I chalked it up to the cheap rebuilt ones that I kept using. The only saving graces were that they had lifetime warranties and were easy to replace. How often are you replacing these?
