Cherokee pics. Lets see your rig

New mods to the front. There is a heavy duty receiver hitch behind the altered bumper. The license plate is mounted to a unit that fits in the receiver hitch. Since this photo I added a front OEM skid plate.

    Lift?

It looks to me like that price is just for the rear AAL kit. The photo is quite misleading.

    Thanks to this forum

I added a 2" lift to my XJ today and needed info on a coil spring compressor tool. I found the info I needed in a hurry at good ole Jeepz.com. Thanks. BTW, O'Reily Auto Parts in Billings, MT let me use a strut spring compressor at no charge (the regular coil spring compressor tool won't...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

I ordered the 2" lift kit yesterday. I'm going to take careful measurements of the driveshaft angle before and after the lift. Even though it wouldn't be absolutely necessary to lower the transfer case I will have the info to make some slight adjustments if needed. It couldn't hurt anything to...

    Aussie locker

Thanks again, Marc. I run synthethics in everything. I'm totally sold on it.

    painted the 87 cherokee :)

Lookin' good. Very nice. Did you do the paint yourself? Why did you decide on the Liberty engine? Let us know how that all works out and how it performs.

    Aussie locker

Thanks Marc, Your testimony really helps. Your experience clears away what could be sales hype and makes it reality. I'm settled on the Aussie.

    Aussie locker

I have been researching all the locker possibilities. The ultimate seems to be the air activated ARB but they are totally out of my price range for now. I have read many reviews on the Aussie Locker and, for the most part, the reviews are positive. My only hesitation is how it will effect...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Thanks, Blown XJ. I will check that out more. The old Buick slogan of many years ago was "Ask the man who owns one."

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Okay, Bounty H, I will check into the Aussie Locker. The Powertrax locker is said to be locked all the time and "rachets" when doing tight corners. Hummm, I wonder about that. Anyone using the Powertrax unit?

    Great book for Cherokee owners

A few days ago I ordered on Amazon a book entitled High-Performance Jeep Cherokee XJ Builder's Guide by Eric Zappe. I received the book yesterday and, as a newbie to the Jeepster world, it is a great book to have. He shares in sufficient detail about suspension lifts, axles and differentials...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

I did some research on Powertrax. It is an automatic locker like a Detroit Locker. I may take the leap on this one. $453 including shipping is a decent price. BTW, I have pretty much decided to do a 2" lift for now and shoot for 30" X 9.5" tires with the stock alloy rims. As I get more...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Thanks Brad. I have a Chrysler 8.25 in the rear with 3.73 gearing and a Dana 30 in front. There is a "Powertrax no-slip locker" on eBay for $453 including shipping for a Chrysler 8.25. That sounds pretty reasonable. Is that what I need? Ever hear of a Powertrax?

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Locking differential: is this what it means when I read the term "lockers" in articles about Jeep set ups? Is this conversion best done by a shop that does that kind of work? Which is better, locking differential or limited slip? Thanks again.

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Yes, Bounty H., you make a good point about my caution and you may be right. I know there are many successful lifts if done properly. Yet a stock vehicle is not all bad if one knows the limitations and drives accordingly. I have taken my stock XJ on some fairly gnarly BLM unmaintained...

    Strange XJ electrical problem

The left front amber park light (two bulbs) and the left front amber sidelight won't come on. The turn signal aspect works for both. I have checked bulbs and that isn't the problem. The wiring appears to be fine (no tampering and the vehicle has not been wrecked). Any ideas?

    A lucky find

No, I haven't installed it yet. I am hunting down other skid plate stuff and I want to do it all at the same time. So far I have the tank skid and a set of rock sliders off Craigslist. I'm going to Denver next week (I'm in Billings, MT) and will look for something to protect the oil pan and...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

Thanks Bounty H. That helps a lot and the drawing is an extra effort that I appreciate. The drawing brings up another picky question though: the transmission is designed to sit in the calculated position set up by the auto engineers. If I alter that angle to align the driveshaft after the...

lift kit and drive shaft alignment

I'm new to this so bear with me please. I have been considering a 2.5 - 3" lift kit for my newly acquired 2000 XJ (mainly so I can use 30 or 31" tires). I have been doing some research and asking around. The companies who sell lift kits seem to be rather vague about the question of drive...

    A lucky find

I was looking through one of our local salvage yards today and found a Mopar gas tank skid plate in great condition that fits my 2000 XJ. I got it for $25. 8)
