    CJ7 vs YJ vs TJ

I thought I would join in on this, even though I am still a newby. I just picked up an 83CJ - it does need some body work, but the engine is solid (rebuild 30K ago), and the transmission works like a charm. I have a hardtop for it, and a softtop (missing some clamps). The best story is that...

    fuel tank leak after filling

I have a similar issue with my 83 CJ7. The gas gauge doesn't work, so I filled the tank, with a plan to drive it a while in order to calculate MPG. I parked it in the garage for the night, and woke to a strong gas smell coming from the garage. There are no leak spots on the floor, and nothing...

    Welding facts

My CJ7 is in need of alot of small time welding, and I am thinking of learning how to do this. I have heard that a good ARC welder is a good start, and that I should not go on the cheap for it. Any insight on a brand, and is buy one used a good idea? I also need to learn how to weld - is it...

    Steel or Fiberglass Tub??

OK, I'm going to go with steel. I will attempt it myself, and bypass the body shop. I assume I need a body mount kit, glass for the windshield, lights and such. Anything big I should consider while I have the body off?

    Restoring my CJ7

OK, I've been convinced that a steel tub (kit) is the way to go. Aside from the body mount kit, what should I be picking up. I assume I can reuse the existing lens/lights, top, seats (maybe). Is now the time to replace all gauges, wiring, selt belts, grab bars, doors, carpet, knob boots, ...

    Restoring my CJ7

I am pricing the steel tub kits (fender to tail gate). Looks like about $4500 including shipping. Should I get a bodyshop to install it and then allow me countless hours to get it road worthy? I wonder if I got what it takes.

    Steel or Fiberglass Tub??

It looks like the steel kit will run about $4500 including shipping. What is the labor time to install on of these animals? I would guess the tear down would be as fun as the build up, but if I do it myself on weekends I figure it will take a few months to finish. I also heard that a steel...

I'd be interested in replacing the body on a 1983CJ7. This is an on road 9occasional sand) Jeep - too much rust to repair. Any ideas on which way to go?

    Steel or Fiberglass Tub??

I am looking to overhall a 83CJ7. I am leaning towards fiberglass (so beach work, but mainly on road). Some of the fiberglass tubs come with gel coat. Is it worth the $1000 extra?

    Restoring my CJ7

Body issues, interior issues, windshield and doors need repalcement or repair. Electrical shorts, and numerous bulbs are out. Rusted thru floors have weakened the side supports and seat belt mounts. Needs ball points, clutch linkage and new exhaust.

    Restoring my CJ7

My plan is still rough, but here's what I am thinking: I'll take it in for a complete physical, and get a list of the mechanical issues, and any major concerns. I'll run it over to the local bodyshop and chat about possible body repair options, and timing. I'll likely start driving it a bit...

    Restoring my CJ7

I have attached some photos - quality isn't great but I will take more when it arrives. I expect that rust over the wheel wells is deep, and overall body has some bubbles. The Engine (258) was replaced 30K miles ago, brakes recently redone, as was the rear axle bearings. The frame has some...

    Restoring my CJ7

I am new as a Jeep owner - I have wanted one ever since my first Armed Forces day ride back in the day. Anyway, I have a CJ7 in need of lots of work, so where to start? What's the best way to get going on this without the CJ7 sitting in pieces for years in my garage? I am scouring the...
