I read in your post that the TB was replaced. After it was replaced is that when the idol was about 900rpm, if all of the gasket was not removed that could be a source of a vacuum leak. Also there have been known issues with the pin connectors on the IAC not making good contact in the plug...

I wouldn't say the kit is superior. It gives the builder more freedom to make the steering the way they need it for their application.
