Found it- it's an ignition module.

So here is another question I should probably know- On my 83 cj7 4.2 258- i removed the windshield fluid reservoir and coolant reservoir and found a square metal box with about 6 wires going into it. I'm pretty sure it's a computer for emissions- but does anyone know for sure? I looked on...
