How to mod my tj without any cash?

That's the best answer on here. Lifts and mids are pretty much all going to cost you money, no matter what you do. Go wheeling with it and get with the old crusty guy on the trail that is the most beat up and he will get you going on the right path.

    tj with 37's and 5.13's

Wow that's a lot of gear! I'm running 37's on 4:56. But I am also running a I6 with a T-18 trans. Is that not low enough? It crawls pretty slow. I even ran 3:55s with 33 inch tires.

    No more module.

Ok I have a 1978 cj5 with a 258 I6 (which I love, and believe to be leaps and bounds better than a v8 in any cj) AND I would like to take all of the original wiring out and replace the ignition with a pertronics distributor, coil, and holofix sensor. Getting rid of the rats nest of wiring from...

    82 CJ8 stalling out at 35 mpg

Yeah you have a fuel clog probably in the pickup.

One fog light will not go on unless I tap it with hand.

You have a loose connection most likely your wires. Or you may need to pull out the bulb and clean the connectors.

    CJ trans

I bought an adapter plate so it would fit up. You will love the 4 speed.

will a 4" lift be enough?

Yes........... after you cut out every bit of your wheel wells you have and install 2 inch wheel spacers so you can turn. Heck you could stuff 37's with enough saws all blades. No you are going to need at least 6 inches of lift and you will still have to get wheel spacers or a set of rims...

    79 CJ7 or 99 TJ???

CJ ALL THE WAY! I love my cj5. You will always be able to do cheap great upgrades if you want to go wheeling. But if you are just daily driver go with the Wrangler.

    CJ trans

I did a trans swap with my 1978 cj5 from that junk 3 speed to a T18 4 speed about 12 years ago and I was going to keep it for a spare but after I put that 4 speed in I was hooked! I was living in grass valley and took it to the rubicon with no problem. I had stock 3:55 gears I6 and a Dana 300...

    Enough interest?

I see just one problem with your design. When mud, dirt, rocks, and sand get jammed in-between the body and your steel how are you supposed to clean it all out? Also why don't you put a bolt mount on the body mounts? Just an idea. Also a cool thing might be to put step bars in the middle of the...

    Price check?

Yeah about $1500 but if remember smog check is hard to pass. And can be expensive. So if you have another option of jeeps I would go with that.

Great Deal! Leads to a new Question

I have a 1978 CJ5 with a 258 I6 t18 4 speed Dana 300 T case and 4:56 gears that are going into the axles that are still in the mail. I have extended the rear of the frame 16 inches and front 3 inches, along with re bracing the hole frame. It's still at powder coating. I was going to go with the...

Great Deal! Leads to a new Question

Ok I just got the deal of deals on a set of axles (Dana 44 and 12 bolt), skyjacker 6 inch lift springs, steering gear box, and spring hangers all for $200. Well now I'm wondering how to make these springs flex like I would like. I have heard that if I remove the two center leafs and that will...

CJ5 Full Width Axle Leaf Springs?

Yeah I am in the middle of that at the moment. I love all the different ways people have come up with on how to attach the brackets. I am using Revolver shackles and Gone Too Far spring mounts for maximum flex. I was thinking of doing a 4 link but that might have to come later. I will post...

CJ5 Full Width Axle Leaf Springs?

Well I found a set of 44 inch Rancho springs 2.5 inch lift that I think I'm going to use. Would those be good?

    Aussie locker

Hey now that's great! How do they work on street with 37 inch tires. I have been looking for a locker for my rear axle 12 bolt on my CJ5 full width rocker that I also want to drive on the street. Would this be a good option?

    93 YJ 6 cyl under-performs

Well it sounds like it is time to re-gear to 4:11's Sorry buddy jeeps were never built to drive 70 or 80 MPH. My top speed ever in my CJ5 is 65 MPH. But if you do want to get it up to that speed you are going to need to re-gear them diffs.

CJ5 Full Width Axle Leaf Springs?

Wow I didn't think of that. Thank you very much, I kinda want to stick with a stock style of spring not cj but just any stock springs. Lift springs and odd year models are not easy to get in smaller locations if I break something.
