Thanks for all the help. Problem resolved. Thermostat wasn't working properly. Engine temp only at 160 deg. Changed thermostat to 195 deg. Then discovered heater core leak, so I replaced core. Now everything's ok.

I don't have any heat coming from heater. System flushed and all clear, no blockage in system. Hose from thermostat housing connected to upper heater core. Lower core connected to rear of intake manifold. Hose from water pump near pulley connected to front of intake manifold near temp switch...

Problem was resolved. Replaced the distributor. Jeep fired up like a champ. Been on the road for a week with no problems. Thanks to all who replied to my post. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Mike

The misfire is electrical. Originally the throttle body regulator diaphragm was ruptured, that was fixed. Now if you remove power to the distributor the engine cranks normal. Engine just rebuilt. timing chain and gears new, no slack in chain, 15 pins between timing marks. When I first ran it, it ran great even passed smog. After driving for a couple of days started missing.

I dis-assembled above. The cam shaft is 180% out. There's a camshaft sprocket pin and it's in the wrong hole, (180 out). Can this pin be removed? Mike

I just started from scratch. Set timing mark on TDC, then pulled timing cover, valve cover. I found on #1 cylinder both valves closed. Timing mark on crank shaft points to the center of camshaft bolt. Timing mark on camshaft points exactly 180% away from crank shaft. I've looked at the manual...

That's the problem. I know for a fact that #1 is in the correct spot. Even went so far as to hand turn engine to #1 compression stroke, found the timing mark on damper, put a screwdriver into #1 , turned it until TDC, then set damper mark to TDC.
