    engine oil smells like gas

Usually happens with the rings don't seal perfectly. Like stated a leak down test will tell you. It can be made worse by fuel pump with too much psi or a leaking carb....but the rings are still usually the issue. If you don't want to do a top end on the thing, change your oil a lot and rock on!

Can you add "stock" switches in the cab

I 100% agree relays are a great tool and most people should use them especially for lights. However a 30" runs of wire for even 30amps is negligable if you use quality switches and wire. I do run large enough switches, wire, and anything else that might be in line when I dont use a relay...

Going for 35 tire need help

I would buy/build a custom 9" housings and axles, I don't "swap" axles but I see why there aren't more since you can't really bolt one up. I just can't see buying that POS axle then spend money on the C-clip elimianator etc. I'm just biased....I hated that axle :) I'm not going to do things...

    High Lift

I still have my stock bumper and just bolted it to the holes already there. I removed the T-55 bolts, got some grade 8, installed tow hooks at the same time and added one longer bolt through two of the holes. Cost me $8 and fits perfectly. I only bolt it on when I go wheeling. I live next to...

Can you add "stock" switches in the cab

Ebay won this battle for me. The dealer near me is so useless I can't even tell you. They can't find a damn light bulb and told me I had to buy a new pannel if I wanted the swtich (which you all have said is wrong). So I bought two on ebay today. One for my HIDs and the other for whatever...

Going for 35 tire need help

Fantastic info everyone. Okay some follow ups. First off I hate 8.8" axles...I owned many fords and I don't like c-clips. For the money I would do a 9". I do come from a desert racing background though so it's basically the standard. Any reason more people don't run Ford 9" axles in the...

Going for 35 tire need help

Do my "stats" not show up when I post (98 TJ with no lift on 31" tires)? LGR you say SYE and driveshaft...meaning rear driveshaft? I thought the front was the problem shaft no? I'm new to Jeeps, I hate not knowing much!

Can you add "stock" switches in the cab

I have a 98 TJ Sport that only uses the rear wiper switch on that switch pannel in the cab. My local Jeep store was useless when I asked this, but I'm wondering if anyone has added say a fog light swtich to that pannel if it didn't come stock on the Jeep? I tried to search but came up with...

Going for 35 tire need help

I'm going to piggy back on this thread since I'm in the exact same boat. First question, how long will the stock drive shafts work with a 4.5" lift? I do hit the trails but my plan was to upgrade in stages. Do I need a front more than a rear? Second question, with a light gas pedal, how...

Back to 4x4s from desert racing

Hello Jeepz! I started my off-road life in college as a 4x4 guy. Learned and broke a lot. Then the desert bug got me and I've been racing for years. I'm currently selling my class 5 bug but I've already found my new toy. 1998 Jeep Wrangler. I couldn't be more excited. The wife is happy...

    I messed up

I know this thread is a bit old but I just bought a 1998 TJ because I wanted a Wrangler so bad. Funny thing is we (wife and I) own a 2010 Jetta TDI! I would die without my tow and luckly I only drive 3 miles to work. The wife drives 50.

    Air conditioner/heater air not redirecting

I can't confirm this on a Grand Cherokee, but my Wrangler (and before that my Ranger, and before that my F-150) were all operated by vaccumee. It may be as simply as a hose that came off, or a leak in the system. Duct tape usually fixes it! I just bought my TJ 4 days ago and I got it cheap...

    Bumper Question

To add to your own answer, be sure to check which plates work so you don't have to run around. I am buying the same bumper and I already have a winch plate...it doesn't fit :( I'm simply going to make one, but do your homework (or call Smitty) before you buy.
