96 cherokee dies and wont start

Well I believe I nailed it. Pulled cap and rotor. Pickup looked terrible. I put pickup, rotor, cap, wires, and plugs in it just over 2 years ago and you wouldnt even know it. I cleaned the rotor and cap, replaced the pickup. Found something else too. A few years ago I replaced the oil pressure...

96 cherokee dies and wont start

lol this jeep has had its share of problems. I will say that Chryslers do not like aftermarket parts at all. I ordered a new pickup coil/cam sensor. to install tomorrow. The last time I replaced the pickup was 2012 and it was for the same reason. It sucks when things are random because you...

96 cherokee dies and wont start

I drove the jeep today and of course it did it. I was going down the road and it was like someone shut the key off. I tried several times to get it to restart while coasting but it would only chug and stall. Once I finally rolled to a stop and got it to the side of the road it fired right back...

Help me choose which wheel bearings to buy

you are lucky. most dont like to, and if they do they wont warranty as good. I only stick with timken or skf. Usually skf is a little cheaper than timken though

96 cherokee dies and wont start

Update 7/1/14. I ran the engine and started from the pcm connectors and followed both the CPS and the pickup, problem would not occur. I am thinking there is a bad wire somewhere in the loom to the pickup. Maybe once it heats up it breaks connection. I ran it and drove it today, code would not...

96 cherokee dies and wont start

Hi all. Well the jeep was running good for a little while. To refresh all. It is a 1996 jeep cherokee, 4x2 4.0l6 It throws a code P0340. Cam sensor ckt a, Bank 1 or single sensor. My research showed to change the crank sensor. So I did last week. I found the wires at the sensor itself were bare...

    Still dies

cool. I was thinking possibly CTS also. they tend to become unreliable overtime and can cause havoc when cold or hot, or all the time.

Ok guys wonderful news. o2 sensor replaced, light went out same day, hasnt come back on. runs good without spell, passed NYSI yesterday. '93 Grand Cherokee message center

I know this may sounds stupid but I have to ask. according to the vin is it a 4x4? What makes you say it is a full time 4wd? See if the transfer case was removed the rear driveshaft would have been changed also because the transfer case bolts to the rear of the trans and the rear shaft goes to...

I wonder if you could have a bad actuator for the 4wd. does it have push button or lever style engagement?

Engine smell in cabin at high speed

that is interesting. do you have an oil leak? If you did you may not smell it under normal conditions but under load it creates more heat and tends to burn off and smell more. Welcome to Jeepz forum

    front seats with issues

Ouch I have gone through this before, Is there any kind of warranty on the seats? Unfortunately I cannot think of any way to ensure safely installment of latches. 94-96 was a common year range for the change from front button release to the top red release style latches so therefore the...

96 Jeep Cherokee runs fine then rough, then fine

Ok so I will be replacing the o2 sensor thursday. I have asked her on 3 occasions since I plugged the vacumn to the purge valve and all 3 times her response was the same. She said the problem still occurs but it is not nearly as bad as it was before. I guess I will find out after the o2 sensor...

96 Jeep Cherokee runs fine then rough, then fine

I swear you have been a huge help. Although the problem has not been resolved it helps alot. I am very careful with probing anything. I changed both o2 sensors. B1S1 about 2 years ago, B1S2 about a year ago. B1S1 was bad .B1S2 I replaced in hopes of resolving this issue, and I figured they do...

96 Jeep Cherokee runs fine then rough, then fine

Ok to update this. Today I removed the line from the canister to the intake and capped both ends. This setup has 2 ports on the canister and a vacumn solenoid seperate with 2 lines and an electrical plug. I plugged the line that plugs in right by the MAP Sensor. The lines go, tank line to...

96 Jeep Cherokee runs fine then rough, then fine

Where exactly is the solenoid located? I figured that on the EGR because I figured if it had it I would have addressed it when I have looked at it before
