I just had the same problem. It was a 40 dollar part. The o2 sensor was bad. I had it under water , dried it out, then my idle would go up and down about 800rpm, for a few min. till it warmed up. I changed it and it runs great now.

It was in fresh water. I had the o2 sensor changed it was acting up. Do you think it could be the cat converter?
