High starting idle

Every time I start up my 88 yj it revs itself up to 2-2.4 rpms for a good 20 seconds then drops back down is there any reason it does this?

That's high many autos run just above 1000rpm for 30 sec.

Vacuum leaks can cause this.

What do you mean by auto? And how do I check for vacuum leaks?

Auto = cars or vehicles.

Did it always do this or only when warm or cold out?

To check for vac leaks you could spray wd40 or carb cleaner slowly around the intake to head area then around each vac connection then down each vac line. When the engine rpm changes you found a leak.

It always does this unless I shut the car off and turn it back on immediately. But I'll be sure to try that thanks buddy!!!!
