Just bought my first Jeep, a '98 Wrangler for hunting, etc. The key can be removed while the vehicle is running. I was curious if anyone could help diagnose the problem?? I am no mechanic and my vehicle knowledge is somewhat limited. I had a strict budget for the vehicle itself so I really dont want to take it to a dealership to fix.

You need to replace the tumbler assembly and have a certified locksmith re-key the new tumbler to your existing key. Welcome to Jeepz.
