 are there any rocker gaurds thats can be mounted with adhesive instead of rivets. The area where it will be covering has some rust spots right where the rivets would go which would cause a problem. I have seen the smittybilt stainless steel ones but i like the diamond plated look better . Could you guys lead me in the right direction in finding the best ones ..Thanks

I never heard of any, but I know there is some pretty strong double sided tape out here. We use some stuff 3M makes, it takes alot to get it off. But nows your chance to cut that rot outta there, weld in a patch and cover it with the rocker so no one can tell. The rust may spread pretty quickly once its behind the rocker panel.

jbweld? I used some 3M trim adhesive once for an old car (the stuff they use to hold molding on.

I'm no welder, but I guess you could try and weld them on. Maybe drill holes through the body, then weld from the inside.

well besides doin any major welding like that what if i sanded the area, por 15 it and bondo or somthing of that area. Then just drill. What is riveting? Whats the difference between that and just drilling ?

A rivet is a small diameter metal crimp devise that goes through the you drilled in the rocker plate, and your body and when the back side is pulled it flares out on the inside of the body section holding your new panel in place.
If you are concerned about pulling through this rivet where there is body damage I would suggest you first treat the rust then buying a small section of 1/8 steel plate or aluminum to use as a backing plate on the inside of your body where you plan in riveting on the rocker guards. Just make sure the rivets you buy are made for the thicker materials.

if you want to glue your rocker gaurds over rust, i dont see why you need them to start with? there are rocker gaurds that attatch to the frame and not the body if you want to go that direction

well the easy way i see is the small section of steel behind for a backing. The rust is under the paint so its not terrible and showing like you may be thinking but its just the rivit would have to go right though. Thanks for the help

there is just on problem, water will get behind them and the rust will continue till you stop the rust. por-15 is made to be painted on cancerous rust and seal it from spreading. If you dont stop it it will continue to eat away at your jeep till there is nothing left to support the rivet and sheetmetal behind it.

thanks i have a couple cans of por-15 laying around from when i did the underside of my jeep. I will deff. give it a couple coats.
