RE: nutter bypass...

I have a Carrier, Ring & Pinion and Master install kit on its way. ive never done this before, i assume it will come with instructions. I opened up my D44s tonight tosee what Im up against... Didnt seem that bad, but then again Im just looking at it with the cover off.
Am i gonna need any special bearing presses, or removal tools, or other special tools for this? How much time should i budget for it...

thanks again.

Get a shop to do it, I know your not too far from me, Montrose machine in wakefield Ma quoted me $300 to re-gear and install lockers on my 44's but that need to be out of the vehicle (they have no lift) most other shops will get about $300 per axle, If you need the name of some, i have a couple reputable shops.

If you do it yourself (which I have not, this is the one thing I leave to the pro's) it is not easy, pick up a book on it, do a lot of research before you tear into this!

You'll need a press to get the bearings on/off the carrier and pinion. You'll need a dial indicator for backlash and whatever it takes to guage pinion depth.

I've heard it's best to have a set of set-up bearings until you get your shims right, they slip on and off to make changing the shims easier before your good set of bearings are pressed on for good.

Good luck.
