I have had that happen, but not from a tow dolly. We had those tow bars that hook to the bumper break and the car passed us on the road. We had to floor it to get in front of it and slow down so it hit the back bumper and stop it like that.
Not as fun as it sounds, thats for sure

This happened to me when moving a few things. The trailer was empty and I was bringing it home to load up. The place I borrowed it from tightened the hitch and showed it was tight. 3 mi on the highway and boom it ran into the back of me. The spare tire took the bump. I braked keeping the trailer in contact with the spare until I was far off the side of the hi-way. .
