fabrication help... rusty, flakey upper shock mount

hey guys!

the paint is stripped from the frame, and Ive learned that I need to reinforce/replace the upper pass. side shock mount. The flat-cupped support that the shock mounts to is about 1/8" thick after power washing all the flaked rust cake off. I figure the job would be easiest to do now - before the tub is on there. Plus Im POR 15 ing it.

SO anyway, I bought some 2"x2" 3/16" thick angle iron from home depot, and a flat bar of the same thickness 2" wide. Hopefully my creativity will kick in...

Has anyone had this problem? If so could you describe what you did to fix it, even better if you have a picture! I looked for pre fabbed mounts with no luck...

help would be great, thanks again.

RE: Shocks for TJ w/ Skyjacker Single Flex 4" Lift

Get rid of the stock mounts and go with this setup...

It costed a total of about 5 bucks (plus shocks) to do and it worked great

Ya, I agree. If you're messing with the shock mounts anyways, you might as well change them to a better-functioning setup  .

Cheap and pretty easy if you, or a friend, can weld.

Re: lift & tires

Well I wish I would have seen this earlier. Oh well, the guy beefed it up like crazy... I have been prepping the frame forthe last 6 hrs. Im finally at the point where Im letting the thing dry after rinsing off the zinc phosphate metal/rust prep. Thoiught Id log in while it dries before I apply the POR 15. Ill post pics later for those interested.
