Knocking Sound!

Hey everyone I have another question for ya, my 88 Yj has a knocking sound while it is running, its not the engine because the knocking goes away when you press the clutch in, so I'm guessing that the knocking is coming from inside the bellhousing but I'm not positive. I know for sure that it is not the engine because it would knock constantly. Well I would appreciate any help you could give me, Thanks again.

I'm guessing throw-out bearing. How long since the clutch was changed? I'd suggest doing both the bearing and the clutch at the same time, while you've got it apart.

Thanks Sparky, I wasn't sure if throw-out bearing knocked or not when they go bad, Not sure when the clutch was changed I have only had it a few months, buddy I bought it from claims that it was changed not to long ago, but can you believe em.

My 89 Sahara does the same thing if you pump the clutch a few times it quits. I have heard a t/o bearing whine before but never knock like mine does.

You're welcome. I'm no expert by any means, but I do know a few basics. ;) I've had throw-out bearings squeal, whine, knock, and grind before, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is, but not 100%. If I were you, I'd get a second opinion from someone who knows more about that stuff than me (about 98% of the Jeep world  ).
