RE: Re: Another cooling question.

Hi...i just bought a 2000 wrangler...love it!

How do i put it in 4WD? do i shift it while stopped/idling or should i do it while the jeep is moving?

Simple Axle Question...

Either one for 4-high - but, stop and be in neutral for 4-low.

RE: Simple Axle Question...

Not a dumb question; they are not so very clear on that in any manual that I have read, I think I had to ask the same question when I got mine... Twisted hit it right on the head. Sometimes, my 4HI is a little hard to shift from a stop. You can pop that in 'at any legal speed', according to what I have read, it's easier when you are moving sometimes. 4 lo, you had better be at a full and complete stop, transmission in neutral. And when the 4X4 is set to neutral, it overrides the transmission, so even if you are in park, you will roll...

Welcome to Jeepz :)

Re: RE: Jeep Gladiator Concept Truck

the 2000+ TJs are kind of tricky to get into 4-lo. 4 high is easy be going somewhere between 5mph and 45 mph and pull it into 4-hi

4-lo is a little more tricky.

Make sure you are rolling about 2-5 mph and put it in neutral.
while still creeping forward shift into 4-lo then put your main shifter into your desired gear
the TJ will pop out of 4-lo repeatadly if you don't. it is REALLY a pain in the buttocks.

Sitting still will work but sometimes you will have to hold the dang thing thing in 4-lo till you can get it rolling so that you can do it the way I described

RE: Re: RE: Fuel Gauge

Sounds like your Jeep shift linkage needs adjusting. Mine was popping out of 4-Low, and I adjusted it, and it works fine now.

RE: Re: RE: Jeep Gladiator Concept Truck

Mine was brand new . . . I just had to learn the proper way to get it to stay in 4-lo :D it never fails now that I make sure it is rolling to shift into 4-lo

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I am a firm believer in the theory that
"The only dumb questions are the ones that don't get asked" (that's how mistakes are made)

Oh, and Welcome to Jeepz.com !

I agree with TC. The dumb question would have been "How do I fix my transfer case which I just blew out trying to get it into 4WL and felt too stupid to ask anyone?" Welcome aboard!!! At least I won't be the only one asking "dumb" questions!!!!

RE: Re: Simple Axle Question...

wooohoooo more jeeps! dont ever be worried about dumb questions cuz if you dont ask you just simply wont kno. thats what this board is for! welcome to jeeeeeepz

something that I have found that helps.. put it in neutral when shifting from 2 to 4 when stopped. It allows things to line up easier. Sometimes I can't shift while stopped, so I put it in neutral, shift back to 2 and then into 4 and it engages.
