The infamous gas tank sending unit problem on 97 TJ

There are lots of posts and web refrences mentioning the "infamous gas tank sending unit problem" with 97 TJs... But none of them mention a fix.

Can you take a sending unit from a 98 and put it in a 97 to fix the problem? Are there any other fixes?

I wouldn't, since my 98 had the "infamous gas tank sending unit" also. Not sure if any yr didn't have the same range of problems.
