very strange brake light problem

I have a 1998 4cyl wrangler . . . the only brake light that works is the middle one over the spare tire .. I have checked and tested the fuse , replaced light bulbs and inspected the wire connection in the rear corners, above the wheel well . it's very strange .. reverse lights work so does tail and directional . it's just the brake light. ... I even checked the sockets there clean . I'm going nuts trying to figure it out . if anyone knows what the problem is please e-mail me at macsimonds@yahoo.com

The brake lights and turn signals are the same wire to each lamp. The turn signal flashes when the flasher interrrupts the circuit. So if your turn signals work, then it is safe to say that it is not the wire from the lights to the dash. It would be somewhere under the dash.
