RE: Question to moderators

Ok. Going to pull off intake ect to gain access to freeze plugs(leaking). Paying attention to what goes where ect. and I have a couple questions.
1) What is the silver cannister behind the carb has a green label on it?
2) I see a silver box about 4" X 4" on the driver side fender has the letters EF then like 12 numbers..tell me this not a computer. I want a 'puter free engine?
3) what exactly do I need to remove to have All smog stuff removed. I have the smog pump off isee a metal tube running the length of the valve cover on driver side with little tubes going to block?
4) LAst one for now :) if I plug the vacuum tree on the lower side of the drivers side block, will that handle capping off most of the vacuum lines running to smog crap?

I am new to the 80 CJ. I can do it all myself but do need a little guidance as to what is what.

And by the way, will be replacing Carter carb with motorcraft 2100. I mention this as to the vacuum line question.

RE: YJ susp. lift

Alright, I have an '80 CJ as well and I'm putting in a Motorcraft 2150. That canister you're talking about is an air filter. Follow the hoses from it, one goes to the air pump and the other goes to the air dist manifold (that small pipe with six legs) right? If so, thats a filter. I have heard that plugging most of the emmisions junk on this carb is alright. Aaaaaand, that silver box, it sure as hell isn't a computer. Everything on this engine is mechanical. It is a big fuse box or something like that. Never taken it apart, but I've seen pics of it in the chilton.

If you find any good info about where to hook up those smog lines though, drop me a PM because I'd kinda like to get those hooked up if I know where I can put them.

What scheme do you have? It's kinda cool finding another guy with the same Jeep as me, so I'm just curious.

RE: FYI. Law in Florida says you can take the doors off.

Well, I am not hooking up ANY smog related equipment. No EGR, noair pump, nada :) No gain performance wise, I just do not like any of that stuff. This may not be legal in your area, mine will only be driven offroad...nudge nudge wink wink. I am sitting here waiting on my "portion" of my tax check due ANY FREAKIN DAY NOW!!!!! I have my tires ordered. 33" buckshot mudders..was going to order from HiTecRetreads but the owner said the sidewalls will not match. Rock gear top(I have no top except for Bikini at the moment) will be ordered Friday. Black diamond 4" lift and Black Mountain 10,000 winch..all in the next 2 weeks...I have the $$to just pay now but wife does not like the idea of lightening bank account by $2500 at one time. Let me know as your rig comes along, I will post before and after pics soon :)

RE: Re: RE: Re: The death of Hunter S. Thompson

Wow, that sounds nice. I like everything except, I would think you could go a little bigger than 33's with a 4" kit, right?

RE: Not the U-joints but...

I suppose I could, but it would be a REALLY tight fit. Also the lil AMC 20 rear(gotta make due with it for a good while :( ) does not like to stay together at the axles with 35's and hard driving. Also, I live 40 miles East of Dallas...no rocks hear to climb over. i am a mud kinda guy, logging roads creek bottoms ect. I like to watch crawlers but here it is more muck and such.
