Windshield Replacement

Any tips on replacing a windshield on a YJ?
The real reason I ask this question is because when I replaced my windshield frame my org. glass was glued to the frame. If this is the case why do they sell a gasket kit for it?

Two reasons here...

Number one is to insulate the glass from the slight warping/movments of the stiff metal window frame.

Number two this rubberized compound also privides some moisture barrier incase the rubber gasket fails.
