transmission and transfer case

I was wondering if the manual transmission and transfer case from a 90 yj 4.0 will bolt up to my 87 yj 4.2?

The transmission from any AMC V8 or I6 from 1967-present day will bolt to your engine. Not sure about what you would have to do as far as clutch and related hardware though. That would be replacing the Peugeot transmission with an AX-15 right?

Yeah what he said. Also take some measurements to see if the transmission mount will be in the same place and if the overall length is the same to the yokes. If not you will need to swap driveshafts as well.

The '90 Aisin-Warner AX15 will bolt up in place of your '87 Peugeot BA10/5, but the AX15 has a 23spline output and the BA10/5 has a 21spline output. This is easily remedied by changing out the input shaft on the transfer case, or using the transfer case that came behind the AX15.
