RE: Re: Clutch chatter, HELP ME

on my front end - when stopped and turning the wheel from L to R or vise versa there is a "clunk" noise - had a friend do it while i looked and its the ball joints on the tie rods at each wheel - they seem to go from full pivot one way to full pivot the other way with a clunk... like there should be some dampening material or something - they seem tight but they arent acting "normal" - greasing didnt help - should i swap them out or is this just a "Jeep Thing?"

Jack up the front end, grab the top and bottom of the tire, and see if it wiggles at all. If so, they are definatly bad. If not, try tightening them up a little and see if that solves the problem (not too tight...just make sure they're in there good).

replacing them is pretty easy and not very expensive. If you mark the threads on the old ones, then use the old ones to mark the new ones you shouldn't have to worry about alignment.

If they are old and noisy I'd go ahead and replace them.
