I have lost the vacum to the 4 wheel drive motor and the front wheels will not ingage. this is on a 88 yj not sure what happened tried to use it yesterday and nothing. anyone got any ideas on this.

are you not getting vacuum to the shift motor? check all the lines... if you are not, then you may have a faulty actuator in the Tcase

Pull the dual vacuum harness from the front axle disconnect. With the jeep running, have somebody shift between 2wd and 4wd while you feel for vacuum in each port. It should be strong and switch from port to port. Trace your leaks back from there. Could be a bad line or a bad vacuum switch on the transfer case.

get a cable http://www.4x4posi-lok.com (big buck) or do a homemade cable system http://home.earthlink.net/~stevenschreiber/cabledis.htm (lo buck) - take the vac. sys. out of the picture, more control and a must if youre gonna do a locker up front - did mine about a year ago and no problems so far... and your sure of positive engagement ... hope it helps....
