4wd light stays on

any time i put it in 4wd the green light stays on till i pull the vaccume ling off the switch on the firewall. any ideas why?

Have you tried driving in reverse after disenguaging 4wd? I've heard stories of some vehicles not disenguaging properly but driving in reverse for about 50 feet seems to work.

Because the disconnect is remaining engaged even though you shifted out of 4wd. Either the vacuum switch at the transfer case is bad, or you have a vacuum leak in the line to the front axle that disconnects the pass. side axleshaft.

Pull the double vacuum harness off the front axle and feel for vacuum between the two ports while somebody shifts the transfer case from 2wd to 4wd and back.
