New Exhaust

I have a 89 yj with several problems. The first one I want to fix is the exhaust system. There are no emission checks here so what is the best sounding and most efficient muffler for the jeep. 3 chamber flowmasters sound good on my v8 GMC, but what about a 6 cylinder 258 with no cat? And what size pipe should I use? Thanks for any input

I just installed a borla header and borla 2.25 " cat-back system on my i 6 cyl
1. was expensive but high quality stainless, nice clamps, fit was perfect
2. the sound is a deep rumble, give it some gas it sounds very close to a v.8
with 3" dual exhuast set up not as loud though.
3. I gained some HPs that I definatly can feel.
4. It tucks up nice and neat under the body,Cat back is fairly small compaired to genaric performance mufflers
Its a product with quality youll notice soon as you open the box
I look for any excuse to start tha thing up just to hear that rumble
I cant tell you how impressed I am. It was worth every penny!
Plan for 450.00 for the Header 360.oo for the cat-back

Yea, my dad has a Borla cat back on his Rubi, it has a great low mellow tone.

My cherry bomb on the other hand...

Just put a Borla cat back system I got used off ebay on my 89 yj and it sounds great! Has a little rumble and tucks real nice out of the way. Didn't match up well with the factory header tubes so I had to get a reducer to get it in place with the factory pipe from the cat. It is not super loud at all but sounds nice at idle.
