Carb problems

I am having problems with the butterfly flap on my carb. For some reason every once in a while it will get stuck in the closed position and kill the engine. I then have to get under the hood and manually open the flap and it is good. Is that something that just needs to be cleaned up or does it need to be replaced? Or is something completely different causing it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If it's got a lot of carbon build up, you need to clean it. If the butterfly shaft is binding either on the base or the linkage, apply some silicone lubricant on it and see if that helps.

Thanks for all the help guys. I started to take it apart and found a piece was broken, which was causing the choke valve to not open properly, so I am just going to put a new motorcraft carb in it. Once again thanks for all the help.
