I have a 95YJ. Live in Malaysia, that mass of land between singapore and thailand.

Anyway, am curious as to what 4x4 engaging system my jeep uses as it doesn't have a vacuum operated disconnect.

There are no hoses or contraption attached to the front D30. There are no manual locking hubs and I can shift on the fly.

4x4 seems to be engaged mechanically via the shift lever to xfer case.

Did Chrysler have a different spec for their export model?

Anyone can shed some light? Thanks.

Probably a different spec for the export model, not uncommon for that. You have a front axle similar to what was in the Cherokee for '95, it didn't have the vacuum disconnect either.

Your lever engages 4wd, and your front driveshaft will spin even in 2wd since there is no axle disconnect.[addsig]

I have a 93 YJ I assume similar to yours.

Transfer is an NP231 it has the following.

2H

4H

N

4L

It does not have lockers and the even if you are in 4H the front Dana 30 and the front drive shaft keep on turning.

Alon, where are you located? Are you saying you don't have the vacuum disconnect on the front axle either?[addsig]
