I just bot. a stock 06 Rubicon running 245-75-16. Discount tire shows the largest tire I can run is a 285-70-16 which is an oddball size with few choices in mud tires. What is the largest most pratical tire I can run on the 16x8 rims on a Rubicon with no lift? 31?32?33?

the difference is 31.70" and 32.8 between the 285/70 r16 and the 285/75 R16 A smidgeon over an inch. See if you can take the extra 1/2 to 3/4 inch with the 285/75 16.

there is a guy in my club who has the p-metric equivilant to a 33" tire with out a lift, he does have wheel spacers though.

Thanks for the information. I am going to try a 275x75x16 which is .39" less in width and .53" taller than a 285/70/16 . Discount tire says the 285/70/16 is the largest I can run. I hear spacers are hard on the front end so I will not go there.

Spacers are not any harder on parts than if you ran a wheel with less backspacing.
You can get by with the equivalent of a 32" tire if you don't wheel and keep the swaybar connected. Take it offroad and disco the swaybar and you will wish you had 31" tires to prevent the rubbing.

265/75/16 = 31.65
275/75/16 = 32.24
285/70/16 = 31.71
I guess I will look for the best mud tire for the price in these sizes. No lift kit no sway bar disconnect. Will be running on bad mud trails on deer leases in the Louisiana swamps. If I rub a little I rub. I cannot afford to get stuck where I will be going. I do have a winch up front.
