I have a 77 cj5 with the 258 straight six three speed. It has stock carter carb, hedman headers. I just installed msd 8516 distributor, 6al ignition control module, and blaster 2 coil. I got the jeep started but I havent been able to get it tuned up right. The distributor came with a bunch of springs and shims and I dont dont know which ones i should use it talks about degrees of timing etc? If anyone has put one of theses on their 258 and could give me some advice it would be much appreciated.

I don't think I'm the man to answer your distributor advance spring question, but I did want to welcome you to Jeepz.com

Degrees of timing would be before or after TDC....there are marks on your engine(usually on a tag) near the crankshaft pulley. Using a timing light you set the distributor position so that the marks line up with the notch on the crankcase pulley. The factory setting for a "77 258 is 1degree to 5degrees BTDC(before top dead center).
Note: Timing should be set with the vacuum advance discd & plugged.

Hope that helps.
