cj frame repair

Hi guys, new to the message board. I'm doing some frame and body work on my 79 CJ-7, I've got a little more than I bargained for on the rear. I cut off the rear crossmember since I'm replacing it, but there's a lot of rust on the rear boxed frame rails too. They're actually eaten all the way though on one side for the last two inches or so. I'm trying to decide how to deal with it. I figure I can cut the offending rust off and try to weld new metal in it's place, or build a sleeve of sorts to slip over it and just bolt it through to good metal. I'm not a very good welder, that's my concern with replacing the metal that's there. I'm more inclined to just treat it with rust killer and build on top of what's already there. Anyway, if any of you have delt with this before, your suggestions would be appreciated. [addsig]
