CJ7 alternator issue

So me and my roommate just got an '84 CJ7 with a Ford inline 6 300 cubic inches engine. Unfortunately, the battery dies the second we cut the engine. We think it's an alternator problem, but not 100% sure. If so, what type of alternator do we need? Thanks!

Check your voltage to the battery while running. It should be 13.5-14.5 v. It could be a failed battery as well.

That's a good question however, you need to ask yourself which alternator was used when the engine swap was done. Was the original alternator used or was the ford alternator retrofitted into the wiring. I'm betting towards the later. It's easier to re wire than to re configure alternator mounts. The best thing to do is to remove the alternator and take it to the parts house so they can match it and tell you what application that alternator fits. Make sure you tell them the engine model you have.
