outside door handles in YJ

How hard are the outside door handles to change on an 89 YJ? One of mine has a broken spring and sticks out, and I always wanted to change them to black anyhow. I remember from other cars that the rods that go to the latch and lock are a pain to work with.

Its easy to change. Panels come off and you'll see how its connected.

I had mine out when I repainted my jeep. I think that there is only one rod going to the latch,the hardest part is the "toothed" wedges that hold them in.A little hard to get the right angle on them but they come out relativly easy and are easy going back in.

Thanks. My drivers side is broken and I figure I will change them both for black ones (I don't have any other chrome on the car).
I just ordered them.

Good luck. The wedges are held in place by a piece of spring steel.
That is part of the handle.You can do a little prying to release the wedge . If they break no loss, you"ll have new ones.
