Rear axle movement

Well I spent half of Saturday underneath my cj, disconnected the left leaf
spring & ubolts from the axle. The center pin is all there ,nothing broken, fit
tight as a glove. Put it back together. Still the same as before. Took some
measurements of the springs. The axle sits right at dead center of the
spring. So I don't know why the tire is still too close to wheelwell on driver
side. Could the tub/ body have moved off center ? I don't know what else
to check. All comments welcome. :???::???::???:

Looks like there's some damage to that one side. Are you sure the fender just isn't bent in some?

Are you sure the pin is in the center hole of the spring perch on that one side?.. If not in the center hole it would be off about a half inch or so as your tape is indicating. I think there is three holes in the spring perch, you want the center one.

If you look at you last photo you can see what looks like a dirt or dust line of some kind going across your spring. It's right in front of the brake line, about an inch in front of your spring perch. That is what is making me wonder if you have the center pin of the spring pak in the wrong hole.

oh, I did not know there was 3 holes to choose from. I thought there was
only one. that might explain the discrepency. I think that dirt line is where
the housing should be sitting. There is also one on the other leaf spring
about the same distance away. The p/o must have had the axle housing
removed at some point & didn't put it back correctly. I will take it apart
again when I get time. Thanks everyone for the input. I will keep you posted when I get this fixed. I can drive it like this as long as I don't do
any rock climbing, the tires don't rub with everyday driving. This is not as
easy a job as some of you guys say it is. Thanks again.

If both sides are like that, then I don't think that would give dif measurements unless each side is in a dif hole.. I put mine in the wrong hole once and didnt realize it until it was all back together, so I feel your pain, and it may not even be the problem but im feeling pretty good that it may be. Let us know and GOOD LUCK!!
