Speedometer Adjustments

I have a 1984 CJ7 with a 258 straight six, a Tremec T-176 4 speed and a Dana 300 transfer case. A couple years ago, when I started restoring the Jeep I purchased 37/12.50R16.5 GOODYEAR H1 tires. The speedometer is way off I know and wanted to know the best way to correctly adjust it. I hear alot about the changing the speedometer gear in the Dana 300. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Instead of going through the headache of figuring out how to do that on mine , i changed my gauges to the Ultralite Autometer setup . The spedometer im using has a module that can be calibrated to any size tires.

there is a chart tht tells you what speedometer gear to use with what set up and tires on one of the major parts supplier websites. 4wdparts or something like that

I used quadratec chart. I have 36" Hummer tires and 5.33 gears. I think it went to a 42 tooth gear on the speedo. Pull the old one out to see if you have the short or long shaft. I'm pretty sure all dana 300 have long shaft.
