6 speed not wanting to go into reverse

A friend just bought an '05 Rubicon with the 6 speed trans. He was showing me yesterday how it was kinda hard to get it to go in reverse. I drove it and tried it myself, it feels like it's in but when you ease the clutch out it'll grind like you didn't push the shifter back far enough. It done it twice with me on back to back tries and being very deliberate when trying to get it in gear. No problems in any other gears. The Jeep is low mileage, (78,000) seems like it has been well taken care of. The clutch seems fine, the clutch resivor was full and appeared clean. Anybody had this problem? Got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an interference problem between the shifter and the boot or tub. A body lift or t-case drop will compound the problem.

Ok thanks, someone else had mentioned the boot. He said it seemed like the boot pulled pretty tight when it went into reverse. Going to dissconnect the boot an see if it helps. It hasn't got any kind of lift.
