So, I'm working on an older yj..when it came to me, I could start it in any position on the selector p-r-n-d-1-2. Figured...no brainer, so I screwed a be nss in the hole, and viola! Trouble is, when in reverse I have no back up lights...if I unscrew the nss out of the transmission, and plug it in to the harness and then compress the switch by hand...I get the reverse lamps. Are the detents inside the transmission not lining up properly? Is there an adjustment that I could make if I drop the pan..any tips would help..thanks!

So it works when not in the trans but not when in the trans? That is crazy. Its the right switch? That would be my first guess. Then from there, it does sound like something is not hitting properly in the trans
