I have a 1982 Jeep CJ that will not disengage the 4 wheel drive. The front drive shaft stays engaged to the differential. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

can you elaborate a little more? Did you turn the manual locking hubs back to the 2wd position after shifting out of 4wd? Auto trany or standard transmission?

Hubs are in two wheel. Standard transmission. Thanks for any information.

With the hubs in 2wd & the transfer case in 2wd the drive shaft & front axle should not turn when the Jeep moves. The front wheels should turn freely & not turn the axle, diff of driveshaft when they turn.

Agree with the above. with the jeep jacked up off of the ground they may spin slightly when turning one or the other but you should be able to spin each freely by hand. They should not be engaged with one another. If they are I would take the front hubs off and clean your locking hubs, good chance that will fix it. If it don't look for loose tcase shift linkage, then internal tcase problems.

Thank you again! Figured it out.
