I have recently completed a sbc swap in my YJ. Now I'm doing all the fine tuning and have stumbled onto the speedometer gear. I started with the 4 cyl and 33" tires and a 4.11 rear. The gear that came out of the transfer case was a 35 tooth and the speed was almost correct. When I did the swap I also installed the SYE kit. I had to replace the 35 tooth gear with a long 35 tooth gear. But now its reading about 10 MPH off (slower). According to all the charts I need a 35 tooth speedometer gear. Now when I did the math with the rotation of the tire and rotation of the driveshaft, I came up with a 29 tooth. The 29 tooth makes since because it would spin faster allowing the speedometer reading to come up the 10 MPH (hopefully). Can anybody help? Am I on the right track? I don't want to have a surplus of speedometer gears sitting around collecting dust. Thanks in advance!
