Ok to use brake clean to get the tooth paint off ?

I have a lot of tooth contact paint on my diff gears after many attempts at reading contact pattern. Is using brakecleen ok to spray it off while on the case ?

Just be sure to dry it all out or let it evaporate before filling with gear oil.

Quick fyi. Gear paint is near impossible to find locally. I used some white lithium grease in the package the yellow stuff came in and works great !! Ran out doing so much painting and needed some asap to finish the task

You can use cartography ink in place gear marking compound. You can actually use anything, even crisco grease, but some people like using what's called out specifically.

I used all kinds of things building helicopter engine gearboxes, starter drives, and output shaft over speed assemblies. All are basically differentials because they turn the 5k hp from going backwards to downwards.
