Main bearings?

Sure, but you'll have to drop the crank. If you're talking about the main seals, they are a little easier to replace. What Jeep?

89 with a 258. searching for a knocking and since I need to replace my oil pan seal I figured i'd go ahead and take care of the bearings.

to remove the crank, you have to unbolt it from the clutch, and to do that, you have to drop the transmission... you are only one step away from pulling the engine, other than electrical work... i'd say to pull it and get the best angles to work on everything... but.. it can be done... we did it on an intrepid last year

will bigger tires fit?

Snitty's right on once again. Forgot about unbolting the flywheel from the back of the crank. I can picture myself having the bottom end apart and wondering why the crank won't drop out
