Well its gettin cold up here in boston...snow on the ground for the first time this year this morning.

Went to go start my 93 2.5L YJ this morning and I turn the key and hear a horrible like almost screeching sound so I stop starting it for a second. Then I'm like, well I gotta goto work, so I start it again, it screeches again for a second then turns over just fine, runs fine once on. Anyone with any ideas on why it is making this horrible noise when it starts?

i would say it is a bad connection between the starter teeth and the fly wheel. not a big concern.it has happened once or twice on just about every vechical i have owned. the easyiest way to stop that ridiculosly lound nosie when starting is simply put her in netrual and roll backwards or forwards a little bit.

if it is a persistent screech AFTER the motor is going then yeah it would be the serpentine belt.
