could a bad cat cause the check engine light to come on? I just had the mechanic check my baby and he said all i needed was a minor tune up and new cat (and that was a week ago).[addsig]

No it can't. The check engine light is for emission sensors. It also may go off by a timer that is located on the firewall between your gas pedal and heat duct.[addsig]

I'd just like to pass this on,

off, on, off, on. (On is not start!)

The "check engine" light will flash. Count the flashes

Each code is a two digit code, so a (for example) 23 would be

FLASH FLASH---FLASH FLASH FLASH

It will never flash more than 9 times, watch for pauses!

55 is end of codes, 33 is normal if you dont have air conditioning.

Please note that some codes are NOT included below, this

is not a complete listing, but it IS very close to complete.

a bad O2 sensor will set off the check engine light in newer jeeps, and in my jeep mine just came on at about 80K to let me know it was time for a tune up

just read jokers reply and went out to check to see how my my emission system was working and i cant get any response at all. i cant seem to get my check engine light to come on. am i missing something or is there another problem? i am at a lose......also has anyone ever heard of a JEEP ICON , did they ever make it to production?
