Serious whining & grinding from T-case?

Wow. There's some serious noise coming out from under my TJ while in motion...even when coasting with the auto-trans in neutral. Was planning a fluid change, anyway, but I'm worried the stupid thing may be getting ready to eat itself. I thought the noise was a wheel bearing at first, but you...

    Dumb wiring question...

For the turn signal lights in the front fender flares on a TJ...which wire is hot and which is the ground? One has a yellow stripe, the other doesn't. Need to wire up new sockets (came with aftermarked fender flares). Thank you!

    Balancing experience...Goodyear Duratrac's

Just bought 33" Duratrac's for my TJ. Anyone else have these tires, and how hard was it for your local shop to balance them? I only ask 'cause they had a helluva time balancing the 32" Pro-Comp AT's I'm replacing. Hoping these will be easier.

Xfer case sticking in 4WD high

Started happening recently...once it does pop out of 4hi it is loud and violent. Shudders the whole Jeep. Checked transmission fluid, seems to be full, good color and doesn't smell funny. This was after I used 4hi in heavy rain on-road. Not sure what else I could check or if I just need to take...

    Strange metallic squawking from rear...

Under hard accel from a dead stop, the rear end is making a godawful noise. Anyone else experienced this? At first I thought it was just tire squeal, but it's too high-pitched and sounds metallic in nature. And I can feel a shudder at the same time. This noise is new...and I know my Jeep's...

Problems noted with Rough Country 4" TJ lift...

First, it didn't come with bump-stop extensions. I used the ones that came with my old 2" lift, but I'm afraid I might have to find a solution once I upgrade from 32" to 33" tires. Second, when the instructions want to you bend a T-case shift linkage tab...the tab wouldn't bend! The picture...

    Check Engine code P1281

Happened this morning on my way back from NC. The folks at Autozone thought it was a "air/fuel meter" warning, but I looked it up on the web and my research indicates it's a "engine operating below acceptable temp range" warning. Which is right? It did take much longer than normal to warm...

Sign of worn bearings or u-joint?

Found something odd while checking my front brake pads... If I grab the wheel studs and move them, they will move left and right while the brake rotor remains stationary. My first thought was that a u-joint or bearings might be worn (causing my death wobble at 45). I was going to have the...

Post pics of Topless Day festivities

Thought it would be fun to see how everyone is faring on national Go Topless Day. Here's some of our club members (Jeep Masters of Augusta) celebrating by wheeling in S.C. It got pretty warm, but at least there was a steady breeze. Hope everyone had fun...that's what it's all about.

    Engine fan hitting shroud...

When the axles flex in opposite directions, my fan is contacting the shroud (and hopefully not the radiator itself) making a God-awful racket. At first I thought I blew the transmission or Xfer case, but I remembered this being fixed under warranty right after I bought the Jeep...used to do it...

SYE kit necessary for 4 inch lift?

I'd like to upgrade from a 2" lift to 4". The Skyjacker kit comes with track bar brackets, drop pitman arm, new control arms, and transfer case lowering kit. Will it also be necessary (or just preferrable) to install an SYE kit? If I went to 6", I definitely know that this and other mods...

Opinions on Xenon 4" Flat Fender Flares...

Was wondering if anyone had experience with these. Love the look of my Sahara with the painted flares, but they've taken a beating over the years (rock chips, scratches, and tire rub). I love the flat fendered look, but wonder if they're as tough as advertised (and if they really take to...

Driving lights wiring...do they HAVE to go through the headlights?

Just bought a set of Hella 500 driving lights. Wiring diagram shows them being wired through the headlights (high beam/low beam options). Do they HAVE to be wired with the headlights, or can I just run them through the battery, relay, then to the switch? (To come on whether the headlights are...

Extending spare tire bump stops for different offset rims and larger tires

I need to extend the bump stops on the tailgate to accomodate a 32 X 11.5 tire on a 4" offset rim. The new tire/wheel setup has left quite a gap compared to the stock Canyon rims and 30 X 9.5 tires. The gap is about 3/4". I've tried to find used bump stops to cut and add to the current ones...

    15" Canyon Rims...set of 5 with 30" M/T's

Correction...only 4 have the M/T's...the spare still has the stock Goodyear 30" tire that came with the Sahara (used once). The 30" m/t's have maybe 10,000 miles of treadwear left (Definity Dakota). Two have plugs from nail punctures...they've held for the last 20,000 miles, though. The rims...

Evap leak code on '03 TJ, 4.0, auto

Anyone know the most common places to look for the leak? Is it usually something you can fix on your own? Tried changing gas caps, that didn't resolve it. Thanks a bunch.

Opinions on lockers for '03 TJ...

Torn between getting a traditional locker for the Dana 35 (rear) on my TJ...like and Ox cable unit...versus an auto locker like this one: PowerTrax? No-Slip? Locker by Richmond and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware Not sure how reliable the automatic unit would...

Transmission fluid leak around belly pan...

Recently sheared off a stock skid plate. It bumped the belly pan on the transmission pretty hard. Now there is fluid leaking out around the gasket. Could this be as simple as removing the belly pan and replacing the gasket? Can I do this in my driveway, or do I need to go to a transmission...

Greetings from the thriving metropolis of Augusta, GA

Hello, folks. Not new to Jeeps, just this forum. Found an interesting thread about a blown center console subwoofer with useful info, and decided to join. On my third jeep ('00 TJ, '01 XJ, now '03 TJ). Been hooked since my dad had his '78 CJ-7 when I was a kid. Lots of great memories. Just...
