1993 Cherokee (XJ) Country: Build by TWDJ

As this is my 1st build thread ever, I spent some time looking at how others have successfully created and updated their project Jeep. One thing became immediately apparent and that is the need for LOTS of pics which I will start doing as soon as I can. As there is no place better to start than...

Two (2) issues that seem to have anecdotal responses.

I've been lurking around off-road forums for the last few years and have seen a HUGE number of newby, noob, new guy type posts. Personally, I like to research A LOT before posting so there is at least a minimum of understanding before asking a question. There is so much available wisdom and...

    PROJECT Diversion: '93 XJ Country

At some point I need to get some pics to show progress. Not much to show now so we'll just go with what has been done so far ... (1) Rebuilt the front suspension. New UCAs and LCAs, replaced front wheel bearings. No springs or lift yet. Wanted to see what I was working with. (2) Temporarily...

    New XJ owner in NorCal

Hello, first post in a long time. Was a YJ owner years ago and now have a XJ. Going to be building for mild to moderate off-road (we'll see how long that lasts) with an emphasis on Low COG. XJ is basically stock with 160K miles with the only "upgrade" being a nice set of 30x9.5/15 tires...

    Graduation from Army BCT

Got back late Sunday night from Georgia where we watched our son's graduation from Army Basic Training. Our entourage spent the week at Ft. Benning for Family Day and Graduation ceremonies then, later, transported Willie to Ft. Gordon where he will spend the next 22 weeks completing his advance...

    Signal Peak

This was the trip my daughter and I took last Sunday that also marked the end of the trail for the transmission in the YJ. Good news was we got home without a hitch! After clicking on the link below, the page loads and you can "double-click" on the first pic and you get larger photos ... or...

Now THIS, is gonna hurt ...

Took my daughter for a run up to Signal Peak this afternoon (will get pics posted later) and had a great time with no performance issues at all. Everything worked great. So we've driven back to town and are pulling away from the first stop light (after getting off the freeway) and I get a odd...

    Proud parents!!

Our son was picked up by his recruiter this afternoon, about 3:45PM, and taken to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) where he will be sworn in and leave for Army Basic Training Wednesday morning. Our daughter spent today at the MEPS being processed and will leave for Navy Recruit...

    Sky-Pod install in YJ

Here are some pics of the completed Sky-Pod installation. The Sky-Pod mounts in the threaded holes once occupied by the footman strap between the mirrors. I ran the speaker wires in 3/8" plastic flex tubing and tie-wrapped to "stick-on" nylon bases.

Is 23-channel CB radio still viable?

Getting ready to install a CB in the YJ. I have an old 23-channel Midland that I used years ago when CBs were a real craze (mid-70's) and it served me well. In fact it was tuned up, tweeked and had a powermike for a clear, clean signal. The question becomes, should I look to get a 40-channel...

    YJ stereo/in-dash speaker install completed!

Well, I finally got the project completed after purchasing and installing a new Kenwood 50x4 in-dash tuner/CD, 2-Infinity 4"x6" two-way speakers (in-dash) and 2 matching Infinity two-way 4" speakers (in a Sky-Pod). Some observations: 1 - The whole "speaker-in-the-dash" thing was not at all as...

    YJ dash speakers

Trust me, I've read all the really informative threads on this topic but have one follow-up question ... A couple of years ago, Currupt4130 and Snitty mentioned cutting out the dash around the speakers for easier/convenient access. Did either of you, or anyone else, actually perform this...

    general tire question

When I purchased my YJ, it had 4 almost new tires. Good tread and tread pattern and they have gotten me everywhere I needed to go and some places I didn't believe I could get. The question ... they are "P" rated tires (as in passenger). Should I spend the money to get the "LT" tires or wear...

    Braggin' Rights!

After reading TC's post on his son's wrestling prowess, it got me thinking ... there are a lot of proud dads and moms, brothers and sisters out there. There are a lot of exceptional people doing some amazing things. Maybe we should start a thread to celebrate those accomplishments and keep...

    4.0L engine replacement

I'm in the process of getting my YJ smogged and it appears that it may be difficult. According to the technician, in whom I have high confidence, the engine is burning oil and is negatively impacting the catalytic converter. In my experience, oil burners never get better so a replacement...

Red Lake to Blue Lakes trail

Here are some more pics taken on another trip. Red Lake is off HWY 88, south and west of Lake Tahoe. The trail is has deteriorated some over the last 4 years, so if you are using an older "trail guide", be aware of some more exciting area. This trip was in mid-September 2006 and there was...
