'02 - '03 difference?

I'm trying to pick up a safari top for my '03. There's tons on eBay that will fit '97-'02 Wranglers. Other than the drive train, what exactly did they change in '03 that would require a different top??

BTW - I have an '03 windshield channel - just looking for the top.

I'm no expert, but if the '03 channel is made for fasteners that are in a different location than would be found on an '02 top, it doesn't sound promising. I'm no expert, and this assumes that Laura's post is correct. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. Hopefully someone can clear this up.

I ran into the same thing. I picked up a drill style header (not even made for an 03) along with the safari for it. You can make the drill header fit, but the top will not work right. As much as it sucks, I'd suggest just spending the money on the 03 and up one to begin with.

Of course I wont swear that the top I have is for a TJ at all. Girlfriend bought it at a yard sale and the guy told her that it was for an 05. Either the guy was and idiot, he got ripped off, or he ripped off my girlfriend. Whatever the case I'll probably try to sell the thing on here eventually if anyone is interested.

O yea, as for actual differences, there is a big difference in the rubber seal across the top of the windshield frame. And the latches for the tops are narrower on the 03's. And all that stupid plastic trim on the inside of the windshield frame.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Hey, thanx for the reply..........sounds like we have the same mind-set. I figure I can rig anything to work. But your sage advice is much appreciated. Will keep looking for an '03 at a cheap price. Good to know the differences.....although I can't believe they'd change up that much stuff. DC I guess.......go figure..:? :?

Well I think you can blame a lot of the windshield frame junk on the government. Safety stuff ya know. Thats where all the plastic trim came from I think.
