12 Volt Problems

Operation 4x4

New member
I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler and ever since i bought it from its previous owner the 12 volt under the fog light switch hasnt worked. I tried everything, pulling the fuses checkin em one by one, and the fuse box under the hood as well. I looked behind the glove box and i found 2 wires. Each has a label, there is a blue wire which has the label Auxillary Power Unswitched 3 AMP Max and the red with black stripes wire has a label stating Auxillary Power Switched 10 AMP max.

I really dont know what these are for and have no idea if they even matter.

Any help is welcome

Thanks!

Are you talking about the aux. plug for the cig. lighter?. The one that's labelled "aux power unswitched" is a constant battery fed circuit. The "switched " one is a Key on circuit. they should be a 3 way connector going into the back of the aux plug.

Check the 12V on the connector and the Ground. If both of them are okay, replace the socket if there's corrosion, if not, check the fuse on the PDC.

If you simply cannot find the problem, also remember that you can replace everything in that circuit (the socket, the wiring, the fuses, etc.) very cheaply. Sometimes it's easier to just replace them.

Yah thats what i did, i tried to find were the wires ran too and still nothing. I checked everything basically and the socket is in good condition. The fuses under the hood arent blown either. Basically everything is in good condition. Just bugging the hell outta me now.

Check for power thru the accesory relay. If the power is good prior to the relay but no 12volts with the key on on the output, the relay is bad. If there is 12 volts or battery voltage, Check the ground.
