Another overheating issue!

Hello
I have an 1998 TJ with a 2.5L 4CYL and the other day I came out to get into my jeep and noticed coolant all over the ground. Turns out the top of my radiator split open and blew everything out while I was in the store. So I replaced the radiator, thermostat, gasket and coolant and started it up and left it run for about ten minutes with the heater on full. I checked the temperature gauge and it was in the red and the "check gauges" light was on so I shut it down. The radiator was barely warm but the upper hose was red hot. I have found no obvious leaks and (as suggested to me) I don't see where the heater core is the problem...no smell, no wet floor and no fogged windows...so I don't know what to check next...anybody have any suggestions? Brian

Check your water pump...try running without the stat just to make sure it works ? did the heater blow hot air ? check what the oil looks like to rule out head gasket failure.timing issues can cause over heat as well....just throwing things out there , good luck !

Thanks for the suggestions...no the heater never did blow hot air...I will check out everything you suggested..Thanks again!

It's possible you could have an air pocket in the system some where. Possibly the thermostat may be sticking. Did you try running it with out the radiator cap to watch for flow when the stat opens.
